Starfish Scholarships is a Canada-based initiative that awards yearly scholarships to students experiencing financial hardship in Southern India. Founded in 2009, the program has empowered 13 students to complete post-secondary studies in their field of choice. The award recognizes students for academic merit and community engagement.
Starfish was built by gold award holders of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the International Award for Young People (IAYP)in both Canada and India. Rosalyn Yake spearheaded the project with fellow alumni after winning $10,000 in a video contest about volunteering in Chennai, India after participating in the International Gold Event (IGE) in Hong Kong and China.
